VAPA Building Artwork

The Uptown Charlotte Visual and Performing Arts Center (VAPA) serves as a hub for both established and emerging artists.  With visual and performing arts represented, individual studios, workspaces, and galleries, VAPA is a thriving artist community.

The center was formerly home to Mecklenburg County offices and was in need of an artistic refresh to the front façade to better reflect its new purpose.  An art competition was conducted to identify 7 pieces of artwork that would greet all those that visited and would reflect the diversity of art within the new center.  Leigh’s piece, “Pouring Joy,” that is part of her “Refreshing Waters,” series was selected by a jury from among the dozen of works of art that were submitted to be one of those pieces.  Reproduced on vinyl, the painting now anchors the west end of VAPA’s front façade.
